Museum Ortner – IGO Art of Communication
When Klaus and Friederike Ortner bought their first piece of artwork in 1974, they could not have foreseen that, nearly half a century later, it would lead to the establishment of a fully-fledged museum. And yet it did. Situated not far from the Rodaun Church and the Hofmannsthal Palace in Vienna's 23rd district, the museum now houses one of the most extensive private collections of Austrian art from the past two centuries.
Works by some of the most important artists of the past 200 years, selected over the course of forty years of collecting, demonstrate the unique qualities of Austrian art. Works by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Arnulf Rainer, Rudolf von Alt, Maria Lassnig, Anton Romako, Hans Makart, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Alfred Kubin, Franz Sedlacek, Markus Prachensky, Josef Mikl, Wolfgang Hollegha, Emil Jakob Schindler, Carl Moll, Tina Blau, Adolf Frohner and the Gelitin group are all on display, showing typical works that are mostly unknown. The collection sets out to showcase the treasures of Austrian art in all their diversity.
The 'ORF Long Night of Museums' offers a rare opportunity to visit the Museum Ortner.
