Museum of the Municipal Department 48
Vienna's garbage museum is the world's first and only museum of its kind. Located in a former workshop hall at the Rautenweg landfill site, it features historical and contemporary objects and images documenting over 100 years of waste management and street cleaning in the city.
The museum focuses on how waste has been handled in Vienna. It covers waste collection, waste treatment, and recycling in the city, both historically and in the present day, as well as street cleaning and winter services. The museum also features a historical toilet facility. Highlights of the collection include historical vehicles ranging from horse-drawn carriages to garbage trucks.
