Money Museum of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank

Visit the Money Museum – in the permanent exhibition you can find out what a money pouch is and why a tulip bulb can make the difference between ‘rich’ and ‘poor’, and you will get an insight into the history and tasks of the OeNB.

The special exhibition ‘In God We Trust. Divine Money’ uses selected pieces from the Money Museum's collections to show how divine motifs have been used on means of payment across time and space. It also provides an insight into the subject of offerings and grave goods – from cocoa beans to Asian hell money.

Downloadable audio guides are available in English and German.

KIDS' COKIDS' CORNER: COWRIE JEWELLERY (6 PM-11 PM)

The shells of cowries were used as a means of payment for a very long time. They were valuable because they could also be used for decoration and made into jewellery. Make your own cowrie jewellery in the Money Museum.
