THE WIENTAL CANAL IN DETAIL
In the ‘About Below’ exhibition, the construction project manager for the Wiental Canal will share fascinating technical insights into the largest sewer construction project in the history of Wien Kanal: a sewage tunnel around nine kilometres long, which is being extended along the Wien River through six districts as far as Auhof. A gigantic tunnel boring machine is working its way through the subsoil – with the impressive precision demanded by such a once-in-a-century project. The new sewer will improve the quality of the water in the Wien River, take pressure from the sewer network during periods of heavy rainfall, and thus become one of the city’s largest water protection projects. The exhibition offers a fascinating insight into how much knowledge, technology, and public services are embedded in the infrastructure that otherwise operates completely unnoticed beneath our feet.
