Exilarte Centre of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna

The Exilarte Centre commemorates its 20th anniversary and showcases forgotten composers and musicians who were persecuted or murdered by the Nazi regime because of their Jewish heritage or their political resistance.

CONCERT OPENING OF THE ‘ORF LONG NIGHT OF MUSEUMS’ ON THE OCCASION OF THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE EXILARTE CENTRE (AT 6.15 PM)

The piano duo Friederike Haufe and Volker Ahmels will open the evening with music for piano four hands. Volker Ahmels is a long-standing partner of the Exilarte Centre and director of the Centre for Ostracised Music at the Rostock University of Music and Drama.

20-MINUTE EXHIBITION TOURS AND 20-MINUTE MUSICAL INTERLUDES MARK 20 YEARS OF THE EXILARTE CENTRE (AT 7.15 PM, AT 8.15 PM, AT 9.15 PM AND AT 10.15 PM)

The highlight tours, lasting around 20 minutes, offer an insight into the Exilarte Centre’s anniversary exhibition. Visitors will be presented selected biographies, works, and themes from 20 years of work dedicated to the preservation, research, and rediscovery of ostracised music.
The highlight tours will conclude with a musical interlude of around 20 minutes on the historic piano of the ostracised composer Egon Wellesz. Pianist Diana Brekalo will perform works by Walter Bricht, Hans Winterberg, Walter Arlen, Ruth Schönthal, and Wilhelm Grosz.
