Dom Museum Wien

The historical treasures of St. Stephen's Cathedral, the avant-garde classics from the Otto Mauer Collection, and the contemporary works all engage in an inspiring dialogue. At the heart of this exciting staging and juxtaposition of the old and the new is the oldest portrait in the West: that of Rudolf IV.
The Dom Museum Wien was awarded the Austrian Museum Prize 2020 for its innovative concept. A highlight of the modern conversion of the historic building is a round glass lift surrounded by a free-floating spiral staircase that draws visitors from Stephansplatz up into the museum rooms. They can look forward the new exhibition on the theme of ‘Everything at Work’, among other things.

The exhibition ‘Everything at Work’ explores the significance of work through the ages, as a means of securing a livelihood, as a source of identity, as a promise of social recognition, and as a path to social participation, by using a wide variety of media, including sculpture, graphic art, painting, photography, and video art.
