Chimney Sweep Museum
In 2025, the Chimney Sweep Museum is celebrating its 40th anniversary, having been founded in 1985. To mark this milestone, the museum is presenting a special exhibition showcasing highlights and developments from the past four decades. The exhibition sheds light on the development and achievements of the trade. Interviews with current and previous guild directors and many exhibits from the special exhibitions shown over the past 40 years complement the exhibition.
The permanent exhibition provides information about the history and profession of the chimney sweep trade. The basement houses a collection of old stoves, kitchen cookers, and ironing machines, together with explanations of their functions.
The special exhibition ‘Adieu, du schlichte Schöne’ (‘Farewell, you simple beauty’) is dedicated to the former ‘Florianikirche', which stood on Wiedner Hauptstraße. The church was also popularly known as the ‘chimney sweep church’. This Baroque church, dating from the early 18th century, was literally ‘cleared out of the way’ in 1965. The exhibition recounts its fate and features original pieces from the ‘disappeared church’ on display.
