Old City Hall – Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance
The Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance (DÖW) is a museum, a research centre and an archive. It shares knowledge about National Socialism to make sure we keep our society democratic in the future.
A special object is on display at the DÖW for the ‘ORF Long Night of Museums’: a leaflet with racist content that was attached to a tree in the Vienna Prater in the 1970s. This item illustrates the continuities and changes in far-right discourse, as well as the work of the DÖW, which has been documenting right-wing extremism for decades.
The DÖW's permanent exhibition covers the history of National Socialism, persecution, and resistance from 1938 to 1945, and how the Nazi past has been dealt with since then.
