Kunsthalle Wien Museumsquartier

Kunsthalle Wien is the City of Vienna’s primary institution for contemporary art. At its locations in the Museumsquartier and on Karlsplatz, it presents exhibitions alongside public and educational programming that seeks to engage diverse publics.

The exhibition ‘Zilijifa’ at Kunsthalle Wien Museumsquartier showcases a series of new works by the Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama. Mahama is renowned for his large-scale installations which address themes such as history, labour, migration, and global capitalism. At the heart of this exhibition is an installation exploring issues of mass, transportation, and material heritage.

BALANCING, STACKING, NOTING, AND COLLECTING. OPEN WORKSHOP (7 PM-9 PM)

In the Kunsthalle Wien studio, visitors of all ages are invited to build their own sculptures and to create sketchbooks they can take home. Drawing inspiration from Ibrahim Mahama's exhibition, visitors can experiment with various objects to tell new stories. Recycled and natural materials can be used to create sculptures that serve as a starting point for drawings, notes, or collages.

THE WEIGHT OF THINGS (AT 8 PM, AT 8.30 PM AND AT 9 PM)

As part of the short guided tours, visitors are introduced to key pieces in the ‘Zilijifa’ exhibition. Ibrahim Mahama often works with industrial objects and archive materials, addressing global economic contexts, history, migration, and labour in his installations.
