EIKON Showroom

‘Eikon – International Journal of Photography and Media Art’ is showcasing highlights from its 35-year history to mark the anniversary of 200 years of photography. The focus is on artistic photography and media art, their origins and future prospects. As part of the ‘ORF Long Night of Museums’, the Eikon Showroom serves as a meeting place for discovering and discussing photography, and for browsing through historical issues in the library. Surprises await you as part of the ‘Eikon 35’ prize draw.
Since 1991, the Austrian Institute for Photography and Media Art has been a key platform for contemporary photography and media art. As an internationally networked magazine, online platform, and exhibition space in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, it combines artistic practice and theoretical discourse with curated education and presentation. The institute’s mission is to promote, document, and reflect on contemporary visual productions and forms of media expression. In doing so, it creates space for critical engagement, new perspectives, and the long-term visibility of artistic positions. You are all cordially invited!
