Fire Department Museum Vienna
Visit the oldest professional fire brigade in the world at its place of foundation. While the fire engines on the ground floor are ready to roll out, the museum on the first floor offers an insight into the world of firefighters. Major historical firefighting operations, including those at the Ringtheater and Rotunda fires, are brought to life.
The current special exhibition explores the history of Vienna's volunteer fire brigades. In the years following the First World War, Vienna had 45 volunteer fire brigades, but by 1933 this number had dropped to seven. How were women involved in these brigades? Why did people volunteer? These and other questions are explored in the exhibition.
PRESENTATIONS AND GUIDED TOURS
During the ‘ORF Long Night of Museums’, talks on topics such as the Ringtheater and Rotunda fires, as well as guided tours of the special exhibition are offered at short intervals. Visitors can join in at any time.
