Fire Department Museum Vienna

Visit the world's oldest professional fire brigade where it was founded. While the fire engines are on display on the ground floor, the museum on the first floor gives you an insight into the world of firefighting. Major firefighting operations of the past, such as the Ringtheater or the Rotunda fires, are brought to life.

The current special exhibition sheds a light on the history of Vienna's volunteer fire brigades. While there were still 45 volunteer fire brigades in Vienna in the first years after the First World War, there were only seven in 1933. What was the situation regarding the participation of women in these brigades? Why did people volunteer? These and other questions are explored in the special exhibition.

The information is available in English and German via the museum's audio guide app.

PRESENTATIONS AND GUIDED TOURS

During the ‘ORF Long Night of Museums’, talks on special topics such as the Ringtheater fire or the Rotunda fire as well as guided tours of the special exhibition will be offered at short intervals. Visitors can join in at any time.
