Treasury of the Teutonic Order
Located right in the heart of Vienna, next to St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Treasury of the Teutonic Order houses precious artefacts from its 835-year history, offering a fascinating insight into the Order’s spiritual, cultural, and artistic heritage. A fascinating collection is on display within the historical rooms of the seat of the Order, reflecting the opulence of bygone eras, the artistic sensibility of the Order's prominent members, and its enduring connection to contemporary arts and crafts and master craftspeople. The main focus of the former Order of Knights’ collection lies on the major artistic periods of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. Outstanding pieces include masterful goldsmithing works, insignia, oriental ceremonial weapons, elaborately crafted clocks, and exquisite tableware. The exhibition also includes paintings, medals, coins, and selected original documents from the central archive of the Teutonic Order. These treasures take visitors on an impressive journey through the Order’s eventful history.
