Museum Simon Wiesenthal – The Future of Remembrance

Das Museum ist dem Vermächtnis des Holocaust-Überlebenden Simon Wiesenthal gewidmet. Seit seiner Befreiung aus dem Konzentrationslager Mauthausen versuchte Wiesenthal NS-Täter:innen aufzuspüren und diese vor Gericht zu bringen. Seine Motivationen und die dahinterstehenden Arbeitsmethoden werden hier näher beleuchtet.

SIMON WIESENTHAL AND THE AUSTRIAN CULTURE OF REMEMBRANCE (AT 7 PM)

Since 1947, Simon Wiesenthal has fought for the remembrance of the Austrian Jews killed during the National Socialist regime. It was not until 2005 that the Holocaust Memorial designed by Rachel Whiteread was erected on Judenplatz. The 45-minute tour will take a look at places along this long path of a culture of remembrance.

THE NAZI SYSTEM OF TEMPORARY DETENTION FACILITIES IN 1938 AND THE KARAJANGASSE MEMORIAL SITE (AT 8 PM)

A lecture followed by a discussion will deal with the events that took place in the building of today's Gymnasium am Augarten after the 'Anschluss' in 1938 and with the ideas for the redesign of the Karajangasse Memorial Site.

ON THE EXHIBITION OF THE YALE FORTUNOFF VIDEO ARCHIVE (AT 9 PM)

‘In the First Person’ is the first major exhibition of video testimonies from the Fortunoff Video Archive. A virtual tour of the exhibition presents eyewitness accounts of anti-Jewish persecution from the Kishinev Pogrom through the Holocaust and its aftermath.
