'Time, it is a strange thing’ – a permanent exhibition on the life and work of Hugo von Hofmannsthal
In an elegant room evoking the spirit around 1900, the Salon Hofmannsthal displays original furniture – including the famous writing desk from Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s city flat at Stallburggasse 2, designed by Oskar Strnad – as well as items from his library, photographs, paintings, and the poet’s personal belongings. Alonside hand-signed books, autographs (including one by Stefan Zweig), and informative display panels, the exhibition offers an intimate insight into Hofmannsthal’s life. Particular emphasis is put on his artistic collaboration with Richard Strauss. The salon invites visitors to discover the multifaceted nature of the poet’s world. A visit here offers a deeper encounter with the man and artist whose work continues to shape the literary and theatrical landscape to this day.

The tour is with an audio guide (German/English) and lasts approximately 45 minutes. There will also be a curator’s tour.
