Foto Arsenal Wien is Austria's new centre of photography and lens-based media. Since 2023 it has been responsible for the Foto Wien festival.
Foto Arsenal Wien presents the full spectrum of the medium of photography in up to nine exhibitions held annually in a one-thousand-square-meter exhibition space – a combination of young talents, still-to-be-discovered photographers, and internationally renowned artists.
The group exhibition developed in collaboration with the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP), ‘Science/Fiction. A Non-History of Plants’ explores the relationship between science, fiction, and art. It traces the visual history of plants through art, technology, and science from the 19th century to the present day. Historical techniques and visual strategies are interwoven and critically examined. The exhibition presents a total of 40 international artists and includes photographs, films and multimedia installations.
