Weltmuseum Wien
Visit the museum of diversity! At the Weltmuseum Wien you will find over 3,000 objects that are presented as ambassadors from all continents. They all tell stories about their origins and the circumstances under which they found their way into the museum.
Special exhibitions:
‘Who's Wearing the Pants?’: Whether baggy or formal, trousers seem deeply familiar to us, but they also reveal insights into cultural identity and fashion. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through 3,000 years of global legwear history, from the oldest finds to the present day.
‘Tabita Rezaire. Calabash Nebula’: The Weltmuseum presents the first solo exhibition of Tabita Rezaire in Austria. In her work, she combines digital technologies with spiritual, non-Western, and indigenous knowledge systems, and explores healing as a decolonial strategy.
‘Colonialism on the Window Sill’: Ten popular houseplants and their colonial history – many of them joined ethnographic objects on long voyages to reach Europe.
