Josefstadt District Museum
Das Bezirksmuseum präsentiert die Entwicklung der Josefstadt von 1700 bis heute.
Die Ausstellung „Keller, Bäche, Bunker und Kanäle. Die Josefstadt unterirdisch“ beleuchtet die „Josefstädter Unterwelt“ von der Römerzeit bis in die Gegenwart und auch einen Luftschutzbunker im Schönbornpark aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg.
„Ich wollte Wien liebhaben, habe mich aber nicht getraut“. Die Ausstellung zeigt den Lebensweg der heute 96-jährig als Schriftstellerin in New York lebenden Lore Segal. Mit zehn Jahren flüchtete Lore Segal aus der Josefstadt mit dem ersten Kindertransport nach England.

GUIDED TOURS (RESERVATION CARDS AVAILABLE ON SITE) (AT 6 PM, AT 7.30 PM, AT 9 PM AND AT 10.30 PM)
The tour begins in the ‘Cellars, streams, shelters and canals’ exhibition and leads to the former air-raid shelter from the Second World War in Schönbornpark (8-minute walk). It was used as a museum depot by the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art until spring 2024. The tour continues to the service wing of the Schönborn Garden Palace (2-minute walk). The inner courtyard was part of the baroque aristocratic world. Take this last opportunity to visit before the general renovation.
