Museum of Military History
Working with history – Restoration and education in dialogue. As part of the ‘ORF Long Night of Museums’, the Museum of Military History invites visitors to enjoy a varied programme. The focus is on guided tours of the new exhibition ‘Violence – Society. Austria and the Age of World Wars 1918 to 1955’. The tours critically examine historical contexts and offer different perspectives on the theme of violence. One of the highlights of the night will be the ‘Object Speed Dating’ session with conservators.
Guided group tours will also be available at the Outer Castle Gate on Heldenplatz every hour on the hour from 6 pm to 11 pm, where all visitors are cordially invited to take part.
HIGHLIGHT TOURS (6 PM-11 PM)
Guided tours of the new exhibition ‘Violence – Society. Austria and the Age of World Wars 1918 to 1955” take place every hour and half-hour.
DIRECTOR’S TOUR (AT 6.30 PM)
Director Georg Hoffmann leads a tour through the new exhibition ‘Violence – Society’.
CURATOR’S TOUR (AT 7.30 PM AND AT 8.30 PM)
Curator Thomas Edelmann leads a tour through the new exhibition ‘Violence – Society’.
‘OBJECT SPEED DATING’ WITH THE CONSERVATORS (6 PM-11 PM)
The conservators at the Museum of Military History will provide insights into their work and share interesting facts about selected objects such as medals, paintings, and an elaborately restored piece of upholstery.
MEMORIAL SITE AT THE OUTER CASTLE GATE ON HELDENPLATZ (6 PM-11 PM)
Group tours will take place every hour on the hour. A ‘torchlight tour’ with Director Georg Hoffmann will be at 8 pm.
