Museum of Military History

The Museum of Military History is a historical museum with a focus on military history. The team offers educational programmes for children and adults and provides insights into the important restoration work being carried out at the museum. Guided tours are also available at the Outer Castle Gate on Heldenplatz.

STRANGE HEADGEAR (6 PM-9 PM)

Various historical headdresses are on display. You can even try on a real knight's helmet and then make your own headgear!

HIGHLIGHT TOURS (8 PM-11 PM)

From 8 pm, there are hourly guided tours of the museum's highlights, including the car of the assassination at Sarajevo and the war balloon ‘L'Intrépide’ (‘The fearless one’).

THE AUSTRIAN HEROES' MONUMENT AT HELDENPLATZ (6 PM-11 PM)

Guided tours of the Heroes' Monument at Heldenplatz are offered every hour on the hour, with a tour led by the director at 9 pm. There is also an information point.

DIRECTOR'S GUIDED TOUR (AT 6.30 PM AND AT 7.15 PM)

Director Georg Hoffmann welcomes visitors to themed tours and talks about his vision for a contemporary historical museum with a focus on military history.

WHAT DO CONSERVATOR-RESTORERS ACTUALLY DO IN A MUSEUM? (6 PM-11 PM)

In the Hall of Fame, the conservator-restorers from the Museum of Military History will talk about their important work and answer questions, using selected objects from the collection.
