MODE WIEN Museum of Fashion

The exhibition ‘Gothic Weaving – From Art to Fashion’ presents an impressive cross-section of Andrea Muliar's tapestries in cooperation with Viennese fashion designers. Each of the twelve weft threads in Andrea Muliar's tapestries is made of thin, self-dyed sheep's wool, mixed individually for each colour. The design of each tapestry is transferred at full size onto a tracing, which is then fixed behind the warp threads. The free design of Gothic weaving means that there are no repetitions, which is what makes the artist's works so unique. Viennese fashion designers take inspiration from the art carpets on display, transforming their motifs and structures into unique fashion creations.

The Mode Wien Museum of Fashion pop-up is located in the historic centre of Vienna, on Judenplatz, in the guildhall of the Viennese Fashion Makers. According to historical sources, a tailors' inn was at this spot as early as the 14th century. In the 19th century, the guild house of the Viennese dressmakers was erected there.
