Paintings Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna
The current exhibition presents a cross-section of the Paintings Gallery’s core collection, including works by Rembrandt, Pieter de Hooch, Peter Paul Rubens and Anthonis van Dyck, as well as Hieronymus Bosch's ‘Last Judgement Triptych’.
As a contemporary insert, 28 Jacquard tapestries by the Belgian artist Ana Torfs, titled ‘The Day You Were Thinking About the Sibyl While You Were Picking Autumn Leaves’, are being presented for the first time. This group of works relates to Sibylline motifs from the Academy’s Paintings Gallery, the Graphic Collection, and other museums. It is also seen with a view on iconographic and mythological traditions and in the light of historically shifting evaluations of female prophecy.
